Are these problems involving an ever increasing number of laws not apparent to most people? Not apparent to the actual representatives of We the People?

The ideas by Selador and Heinlein et al are such a clear improvement - why haven't any of these ideas made it into the laws?

Read more Heinlein and you’ll have the answer to that.

I've a collection of every Heinlein book in hardcover, and several soft covers to give to people who are new to Heinlein.

And I am still frustrated with the lack of long-term vision in our species. Idealism leads to disappointment. High expectations does the same.

So there I was, on a 1,700 acre ranch in eastern Oregon, by myself, working on a dozer in a heated shop. Too heated, really, had the big doors open to catch some crisp winter air in between blasts from the big furnace hanging in the corner.

Out in the distance I can hear BOOM......BOOM......BOOM......BOOM......BOOM Someone is :snipersmilie: Murica, heck ya Anyways, a few clicks of the watch go by, and my cousin shows up in her big shiny Dawwwwwwwwwwdge Ram 3500 to tell me the family is going to lunch and I'd better get washed up to go with.

About then BOOM......BOOM......BOOM......Her instant response is to duck down like something is incoming and goes "holy shit! Is someone SHOOTING?????" icon_eek icon_eek

I said, 'yup, it appears that way.'

She says "OMG, what if they're aiming this way?????" She really did say Oh Em Gee too. Kids these days. At any rate, so now she's all over her iPhone thing texting daddy and brother and whoever else about this renegade who is just willy nilly trigger happy spraying supersonic projecticles of death and destruction at her, me, the dog, her truck, the tractor, the Cat, the shop, her mom, and whoever else. AND THEY NEED TO BE STOPPED!! NOW!!! Turns out it's her dad and brother "trap" shooting with a clay flinger and some old POS Stevens they bought for $30 from the neighbor that morning. Ya, Oregon says fuck you 594.... So now she's all embarrassed and back from the land of diva scared of her own shadow to "fuck ya I gotta git me sum of this there that Stevens thing" like some cowgirls gone wild, shotgun version.

BUT.....this is the disconnect. Freedom is great until individual freedoms begin to annoy others. Then we get that pickle of laws, rules, and the uncomfortable balance of unintended consequences called a 'civilized' society. In a smaller rural area, or a traditional rural economic location, it's easy to say "shut up whiner deal with it" but the closer you get people crammed in like sardines, the more people tend to end up in these places because they're afraid to live by themselves (humans by nature want to herd together, heifer syndrome one could call it) and they become 'afraid' of those who are content to be left the hell alone as free men. Then they cry to mommy and daddy (gov) to "make him stop it!!!!"

You can snap your fingers and whistle "King of the Road" all day long, but do it in someone else's ear they may call the cops on ya.

Dan360 I've had nearly the same experience. We were the ones shooting shotguns and this lady crossed a fence line, and came a long way to scold us for a 100% legal activity. Never seen her before in my life! Turns out she was a guest house sitter. WTAF? She even said she would call the sheriff. Pretty sure she didn't.

And your analysis is spot on.
