 Any Colt single action Gurus?

Neighbors grand dads revolver....Colt, single action, has 44.40 stamped on left side above trigger...ser# 100,xxx....seems to have been shot alot and the grips are worn...What year? is it a 4440?...gramps wants to know what he should ask for it.

The Colt historical data aka "the Colt letter" can make or break the value. Make more so than break because any of the first gens like that one are worth at least 1500-2000 if they are complete.

I'd get documentation on it before taking offers or selling. You could have a run of the mill shooter grade 44-40 worth a couple grand or you could have Virgil Earp's gun. Without the letter you won't know.
