Have you tried a "CQ" call?

Disclaimer:
I'm not a ham but my dad was. I remember lots of evenings when Dad was making "CQ, CQ" calls

For the lurkers: To save a Google, it means " Is anybody out there?" and is usually done for a radio check or just to BS with another Ham..
