I know this has been covered, but I was too lazy to fight the wagun search function. Also technology is changing on a daily basis, so stuff that was posted 6 months ago is now out of date.
I can get an outdoor Guardzilla for $80, or an Arlo single camera with base unit for $130. Any thoughts, any better options? I have one door so I don't need any of those multi camera setups, or cloud storage for a year. Just the basics.

What's your budget, your mounting height, how's the lighting in the area you want to put the camera? How reliable is your internet? How accessible is your exterior internet dmarc (box where cable comes into the house?).

I'd avoid using cloud based cameras unless your dmarc is well protected and the cameras are out of reach.

Arlo sucks. I hear nothing but bad things about the battery life. Nest is the way to go as far as ease of use and quality.

Ya, I always go with wired.
You can buy a cam jam that will disable all wireless cameras and cell reception in the vicinity.
Not legal to use, but neither is breaking into peoples houses.

I now live in an apt, so I can't drill any holes.

Then yes, NEST is what you want.

Nest is wired, and no outside outlet.

The nest outdoor cord is like 30 feet long. And does not require a hub. If they are smart enough to purchase and use a jammer you are not going to keep them out of your house. Are the people that have wired system using a battery backup with offline cloud storage?

When I lived in apartments, I'd drill holes for cat5 cables all the time... I would just spackle them up when I move out. Go wired for indoor and a peephole wireless camera for outdoor and bam, set.

Well you "hear" so you must be a SME. Have any actual experience with them? I do.
Arlo is great. The battery only cams can be fed rechargeable batteries off ebay, if batteries are a concern. For some situations, they are perfect. They also have a solar panel option for their Pro series, as well as plug in powered cams. I have several of each at my home and business. I have had Arlo cams for several years and have had not one failure. They are dependable and quite weather proof. They have a lot of options so just pick the one that suits your needs best. Basic accounts also give free cloud storage.
Unlike the Google Nest and Amazon cams, you are not connected to those horrible entities. Advantage: Arlo.
