For what its worth STI is the only one I've shot, it wasn't mine but I borrowed it from a buddy & ran an IPSC match with it. Nice gun.
I know it's not a 1911 but the CZ shadow comes in .40 as well, also a great shooter.
Both of those guns will be hampered by the magazine silliness. Both have mags that are hard to find & expensive when you do.
Are you trying to use for competition so you can stay in the major categorie or just 1911 in a different caliber?

Also when its time to sell it .40 s&w reduces your options like pawn shops and gun stores. My local shop tells me they wouldn't buy anything .40 consignment only. my 50 cents

I still like it personally but I agree shooting 9 or .45 is more enjoyable. I dunno why the 1911 platform wouldn't be more popular, having a steel frame & longer slide would take the "snappiness" outta the .40. The lightweight polymer framed striker fired guns do not help anyone love the .40 or 10mm much but the metal guns seem to do a much better job. Years ago I had a Beretta 96 elite in .40 & it was a peach to shoot.. Who knows? Shoot what you like. Good luck

CZ shadow if you want a tank. Older STI if you want a rarer tank.
