Gifting to non family.

Hey everyone, a couple of years ago a 94 year old man gifted me 2 of his firearms that he said he owned for over 50 years, a Ruger 22 Mk I, and a Colt Police Special chambered and 32-20 Winchester made in the early 1900. The thing is, he just gave them to me and that was it, no transfers or nothing. I was planning on keeping them as antiques but now I'd rather get something that i would actually use. Can i legally sell them? Or would i have to sell them the same way, and is that even legal? Thank you.

The guns were acquired by him long before I-594, and i'm sure he gave them to you before that date in 2014. I'm betting the date you noted when he gave them to you was a typo/mistake.

Do what you want with them and don't sweat it. Current laws do apply.

Yes you can sell them. Just because you possibly obtained them without a BGC doesn’t mean you can’t sell them. When you go to sell, the buyer will go through the background check.

Most gun shops will take consignment sales.

I am not understanding the part about a Ruger .22 being considered an antique.

The Colt revolver is an antique, it would be good to put it up for consignment sale at a gun shop as there will be many appreciable buyers. The neophyte and the casual shooter would not be able to find .32-20 WCF ammunition, but the experienced shooter will know how to cast bullets and reload spent brass. That Colt revolver would match up well with a Winchester lever action rifle chambered in the same cartridge.
