A few chefs have gotten them, Local Kenji Lopez uses the Ooni Koda. The consensus is that you want the gas powered version on propane because of the convenience and reliability. If the fire goes out from the hopper you will get clouds of black smoke ruining your pizza and the interior of your oven.

I keep seeing YouTube videos of peope using ovens like this. They're pretty cool, and I'm briefly tempted -- and then I remember that this would truly be a gadget for me, and one that I wouldn't use very often. :(

Bought my wife a Ooni Karu last Xmas. She loves pizza especially wood fired pizza. We like the Karu because it is multi fuel capable (wood/charcoal/gas). We mostly use wood. Once the oven is up to temp, pizzas cook very fast.

Prices have come down on these.
I’ve read reviews where the 12” is just too small.
Since the heat is mostly in the rear on that one, you have to constantly turn the pie to keep from having one edge raw, and one edge burnt.
Supposedly the 16” solves this, because you can make a 13-14” pizza, and still have room to turn the pie.
I’m running out of room to store unitaskers...

How hot does an actual pizza oven run? I know pizza baked in areal pizza oven takes on a whole new flavor than in your kitchen oven.

When i worked at papa John's in 1999, I believe the conveyor oven was set to 500 and took 6 minutes, wood fired ovens are around 900 and 60-90 seconds

So Isildur, did you get one of these?
Or you're hooked on Costco frozen pizza now?

Or you're hooked on Costco frozen pizza now? No to the purchase. Wanted to, but the threat level to my life was too high. I'll stick to the home made and the occasional frozen.
