Looking at getting a new generator and I’m liking this one from Home Depot just not sure if I want a higher wattage one, I like that it is dual fuel so it will run on either propane or gas, anyone have one?

Don't have that one, but have owned a few.
Dual fuel is a plus.
I'd get one with electric start.

Are you trying to power the whole house?
Than you really want electric start and a transfer panel.

I have a Generac 5KW side valve Costco special I bought it new in 1999 for $500.
Loud enough to wake the dead. Powered the whole house less heating and drye
Asshole neighbors called the cops when I ran it. Was obnoxiously loud.
Made a setup with two breakers in the panel connected to generator, just cut off line feed breaker when it was running.

Bought a 4500 Robin by subaru with electric start for my 5th wheel.
Quiet.

I believe it has electric start my house was built way back in 1899 however the wiring has been updated since though not sure I want to power the whole house or just the essentials

I got the Champion dual fuel with an electric start. Propane is not as efficient but it will store indefinitely. I ended up tossing my gas one cause the gas gummed it up to bad to salvage.

+ 3 for the electric start!!!
I bought a 6,750 Champion years ago during the wind storms and was the last one anywhere but no capacity for converting to electric start.

I've got second thoughts on an electric start. I mean, of all the battery powered things you could own or already own, the electric start generator would seem like the one to get abused the most. Unless you remember to put the battery on charge it would seem like you'd be replacing it just when you need it the most.
Think about it. Some years the thing never even gets started.
How is it stored? When it runs, how long do you run it? etc.
Just my .02 cents.

Kids check them once a month, start up, and voltage readings.
Along with two Harleys, and a pressure washer.
Also they get yelled at if they bring back a vehicle with less than 1/2 tank of fuel.

Most electric starts also have back-up pull starts.

I've used it once during last year's snow episode when we lost power for about 30 hours. I generally just move all the perishables into the garage refrigerator and then charge phones and whatnot up on it. It worked well - and I ran it off of propane, which seems easy that fuel for me as I already have 4 or 5 tanks around the house for various crap.

I saw someone comment on the electric start - it has a pull start as a back up, so if you let the battery run down, you just pull and it will recharge the battery. It recommends charging the battery every 3 months, but I just got mine out last month (after almost a year) and it started off the battery just fine. YMMV

A little less power but also a little cheaper.

As stated above, most home/camping generators have pull start backup until you get up near 10,000 KVa.
At the former Bon Marche in Seattle we had a 45KW generator for the computer/phone/POS systems that ran on nat gas.
Inline 6 cylinder engine, and a couple shelves of huge batteries.
Probably take 6 guys to pull start that thing.

My Generac 6500/5000 10 HP Tecumseh is a tough pull even with the unloader (opens a valve so easier to start).
Can't imagine pull starting anything bigger.

But yes, all home use electric start gen sets have a pull start also.

yeah, the jacked the price. Mine was originally priced on Amazon at around $900. I bought it during the summer and got it on sale for $600. Its like anything else - you have to buy it when its not needed.

Half though about buying a military surplus diesel gene on trailer but it’s a pain to wire those things up

I keep two 2,000 watt Hondas. I can tether them together to generate 4,000 watts and 30 amps. They each weigh 40 pounds, are fuel efficient, quiet, and run on gas. Full price for the pair is about $2,100.

Between gas cans for the two stroke tools and vehicles I generally have at least 40 gallons on hand.
