They do, actually. This is new sometime in the last few years.

Uh, er, did anybody consider the rational privilege permits are temporarily declining is because there hasn't been a surplus of reasonably priced firearms for 'newbie citizens' to purchase since, oh say mid/late summer, nor has there been adequate ammo supplies, practice nor SD to put in any citizen's SD handgun since May!

Sold 20M firearms allegedly plum cleaned out distribution, LGS, now private sellers want mega $$$ for their olde no longer carried firearms...still no ammo tho...

Just a different perspective presented!

No. That's not it. Gun sales have continued to boom.

Dave...have you visited any national or LGS of late, e.g., Cabela's - their cases are empty, how bout visiting Gallery of Guns ~ Gun Genie and search on SW performance center, 9mm, do not click "in stock only" and don't forget to enter your zip code...(0 Items Found)

just for giggles...just put 9mm in, click 'in stock only' oh lookie you get magazines listed for sale...

the major distributors are out still out of firearms for their local gun shops...

so where have the SD handgun sales boomed again?

got SD ammo, let alone ball ammo for practice?

The shelves are empty because product doesn't stay long. This has been the trend for the past year and change. Prices on guns and ammo are rising not necessarily because manufacturers have stopped producing, but because demand has outstripped their capacity. This is old news. Pretty much every month last year broke a NICS check record for that month.

Alas the major distributor's stores are bare cuz the manufacturers have not resumed full production which means LGS do not have the range and depth of handguns for this nation's citizens.

Further, sorry your entire post is speaking of past, not the reality of today for firearm enthusiasts...

My post is speaking of current events. I say "old news" because this has been known for a long time now, and it remains true today.
Shelves were relatively full of new guns at both shops I went to today. Used, not so much.
The "reality of today" is that the "new firearm enthusiast" is in competition with many, many more "new firearm enthusiasts" than they would have been two years ago.
New guns are being sold in very high numbers right now, and used guns are not being traded in nearly as much, for the same reason. When you find them, prices are higher because demand is greater.
Guns are continuing to be sold at record pace if the NICS numbers are any indication. Here's the link with those numbers. April of this year was higher than any April before it, just like April 2020 was higher than any April before it.

Overall, none of the companies were willing to gamble on when things might “return to normal,” largely because demand is unprecedented and therefore unpredictable. We all must remain patient and optimistic that our favorite firearms will be available soon enough at our local gun shops. unquote

ya'l keep on believing in your myths and newspeek & social media insights...fact is Lipseys, Davidson's, camfour, kinsey, RSR, ruger, and Zanders have no firearms for LGS...as mentioned even cablas's shelves are bare!

enjoy...

You're the only one here who's spouting myths. I've already provided evidence to support my statements. Firearms sales are at a record high. Somehow you're one of the very few who refuse to see it.

Not taking sides, but specifically what are you not finding? ("everything" is not really a good/real answer) Thanks

My LGS just down the road has firearms for sale. There is a 100 year old S&W top break in .44 Russian that has been calling my name but fixing my dozer has me so broke I can not justify $1500. I was in the local Bimart yesterday and they had .308 and 7.62x39 on the shelf plus .38 Special, 9mm and .40 cal.

Dave may post this up himself, but CPL's are back on the rise.

LINK
Dave Workman, in an Ammoland article, wrote:
After steadily losing ground for more than a year due to COVID-19 shutdowns of basic counter services by law enforcement agencies, Washington state sheriffs’ and police departments are evidently back in the concealed pistol license groove, reversing the decline and adding nearly 5,000 active CPLs during the month of May.

Surprise surprise. It wasn't the demand-driven gun shortage (AKA the record-setting sales).

Turns out it was the shithouse bureaucracy the whole time.

My renewal was done and returned in 3 weeks, Kitsap Co. I've gotta agree with the Drought theory, Between Empty Firearms shelves, Total Ammo, Reloading Supplies being wiped out. It's been a dry couple years. And I can see why nobody goes to the Gun Shops lately. Why go if there's nothing to see?
