I have 5 messages sitting in my outbox that wont send.... Any ideas?

The system only marks those as read and complete when the person reads them from the site.

Now, people may also get email versions sent - alert that sends a copy of the message. If they only read those then the original sent message isn’t marked as read.

Most new folks won’t know the ins/outs and may simply ignore the messages because it won’t be marked new to them. Not always but there are the ones that don’t do either -just because they are new and don’t care or on too many different sites.

What you are seeing is perfectly normal, Brian. Yes, your messages have been sent.
