I have a rifle that's all Stainless Steel. Barrel, Action, and Bottom Metal, all "white" in color. I would like to finish it in a matte black similar to the finish on my Stock and Scope.

I don't particularly want to bead blast or sand these pieces. They already have a matte finish on them, it's just in the regular appearance of stainless.

My thoughts were to merely degrease the pieces well using MEK, Acetone, or Brake-Kleen and apply a product like Brownell's Aluma-Hyde that doesn't need to be oven cured.

I would appreciate any thoughts and suggestions from those that either do this work regularly or have had a similar project.

i did a scope in Brownell's Aluma-Hyde II coyote, it was a very hard finish, also ive done some duracoating. Great product but you need a airbrush to use it (dont know if you have one.) Both great products i would recommend both. Push comes to shove if you need to take it off GOO GONE works on both

Almost any spray on finish will work for what you want. If the gun is in good shape the surface can be thoroughly degreased but should also be scuffed with a scotch brite pad in green to give the surface some tooth for the finish to adhere to. You can see a number of examples of my work in the pics section. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.
