Colt HBAR rear sight

Sun Sep 26, 2021 9:49 pm

The rear sight came off my Colt HBAR at the range Friday. Any idea how to fix it?

Unless you can find someone to reattach the pieces, looks like it was brazed or soldered, this was one place that actually shows that part in stock. Probably cost more to have the broken part repaired.

You need a "A2 rear sight base"
About $20-30

Can buy the whole rear sight for $50

Here are instructions to put the sight back together.:

Could try JB Weld
I fixed a missing 3/4" piece of exhaust manifold that way, lasted over a year.

You could upgrade to the Rock River National Match. If you wanted to spend the money.

I have used Locktite Black Max adhesive before on a front sight base with good results. I have some of that on order and will try it. Looks like there is enough surface area to get a good bond.

The residue in the removed piece looks like solder to me as well. You could put a flame on it and kind of spitball whether it's a high or low temperature product. If low you could try sweating the parts back together after some disassembly and careful degreasing. If high then at least you could melt it out of the piece that it's in without harming the rest of the sight assembly and then you'd have a clean place to start for a two part epoxy. Just some ideas to kick around...

Thanks everybody. I used Black Max on it for the time being, and have a replacement rear sight just in case.
