I have a family in a different state of the US. I'd like to fly without a checked bag, is it possible to leave a CCW gun at their place that I use whenever I come and go in their town, or does it officially require and FFL transfer every time I want to do that?

Hmmm. I'm just gonna speculate a little here....

If you are leaving it with your family, as in they have access to it, then I'm going to say "illegal." At that point you've basically done an interstate transfer, which requires an FFL.

If it's in their house but only you have access to it, such as if it's in a safe and only you have the combo, then maybe "legal"? You are just storing it in that other state.

Don't trust me on this. But maybe it's a start.

That is my understanding as well, since intrastate transfers require an FFL in the recipients state.

*legal. (title of the thread)

Illegal. If the relatives get caught sporting it around town, otherwise, if you are the only one using it, and your ownership and possession comport with that state's laws, who is to know that you didn't bring it with you each time you came to visit?

OP, if you leave a firearm/ammo in a lock box (not a cheepy) in another out of state locale and your WA privilege card is recognized by the statutes of the locale you are in good shape...

if you open carry and the practice is allowed [read as tolerated] you should be fine...

caveat...if there are children <21 in the residence you need to assure they have absolutely no access to your firearm & ammo.
