State to state trading

Is it legal to trade long rifles with someone in Idaho if I’m from Washington and I go to Idaho to do the trade? I’m just curious if this is even legal?

Generally speaking, any firearms transfers across state lines need to go through an FFL, per federal law. Long guns can go through an FFL in either the buyer's or seller's state.

So, speaking generally again, yes you could do that if you meet at an Idaho FFL.

Now . . . 1639 has really fucked us in WA, and complicated things. I don't believe that an FFL in Idaho will transfer a semi-auto rifle to you. Any other kind of long gun should be fine.

I would talk to the FFL first, and make sure they're good with it.

Ok awesome, thank you for your response. I was really just curious if that scenario would even be possible with all our new laws in our state. Thanks again.

Doesn't that law everyone hates require that any gun sale with one person being in or from Washington have a background check?

If you mean this one: https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.113
The transfer itself also has to be taking place in Washington.
There's also a handful of cases listed where a background check isn't required.

Not quite.

Soo, Forgive me for (beating said dead horse) digging up an slightly older thread
By this I would be allowed by our masters to visit my brother in Utah, or niece in Oregon and by whatever I wanted as long as it was transferred thru a FFL in that state... I know pistols ar not allowed by fed law, but any longarm allowed by Wa state law?

As long as it was a rifle or shotgun, yes.

^ Yes, but note that in theory that FFL should follow the WA process for semi-auto rifles, if that's what you're buying. And of course, most won't even attempt that.

Only if any portion of the transaction took place in WA.
