So, about 5 years ago, I got my CPL from Duvall PD. I dutifully set a reminder in my calendar for two months prior to the renewal date to go renew it. Well, a little more than two months ago, that reminder showed up and I remember thinking "I've got plenty of time to renew". So, this past Monday I'm sitting in the truck and realized that I hadn't done anything about it and wondered when it was due. Dug my wallet out and took a look, and sure enough, it's expired now.

Great, remove my carry piece, and clear it putting the magazine & extra round in my center console and feeling a bit naked with no way to open carry if I wanted to.

What a moron. I guess there's a 90 day "grace period" where I can get it renewed (and pay a $10 fine). So I need to look into that this week & get it done.

It’s a good reminder.

I’m amazed that the WA state doesn’t remind you either… I mean it’s free money for them.

I have a few from other states and they send me reminders. Get it done. It’s a cheap lesson.

I got a reminder about two weeks ago. I’m due in September. It’s a big blue bifold postcard.

I put in TWO reminders for all my various state CPL's in my electronic calendar. One at two-ish months out, and another two weeks prior.
That way if I do what you did, I'll get another reminder.

I just renewed mine as well. In Skagit county at least, it let me do it online. I had to scan my old permit and drivers license, but the whole process only took about 5 minutes. Way easier than taking time off work to go down there in person, and no real reason not to just get it done.

Yep, exactly what I did in Whatcom County. ~2-3 weeks later, nice envelope arrives.

Bummer. Here in Texas the state DPS sends us a reminder letter about six months before expiration. I did my renewal application online and new License to Carry Handgun was here in about 3 weeks

My understanding is that WA state is sending expiration reminders to everyone too. I know I got one last time mine expired, a couple of years ago.

Regardless, I still keep my own calendar reminder … for all of the CPLs that I have.

I know I sound like a broken record, but this is just another reason why I moved to Arizona.....it is a constitutional carry state

Is there an AZ firearm forum? Asking for Steve.

And no, I would never be like the OP.

I would never remove and unload my sidearm just because a piece of paper in my wallet is expired.

WA is in fact sending renewal notices out now.

in my mid 20s i got pulled over by a LEO and told him i was lawfully CCing as i always do when i'm stopped. handed him my CPL and it had expired a few weeks prior and i didn't realize. he told me to get it renewed immediately but thanked me for the cooperation and honesty. maybe times have changed but it was a valuable lesson for me then and have stayed on top of it since.
