Yeah, I think that's what I'm calling this build..

So, I have my 300bo with 6" bbl...

I've been talking about needing a relatively small 22lr pistol build for a while now... in a sub gun format...

22lr barrels and bolts are all but impossible to find at a reasonable price...

I found complete uppers for ~$500, but the only thing I'd need would be the barrel and bolt/carrier because I don't like the upper, or the handguard, etc.

So.. I did the next best thing...

I got a 5" 5.56 bbl with a 1:5 twist... and a 22lr conversion kit.... :D So, I can either run 22lr, or create a flamethrower by running 5.56... because velocity of 5.56 round is gonna be absolute shit and essentially be a fast 22 anyway...

I plan on running 60gr subsonic 22lr for the most part, so a faster twist is great in such a short bbl...

Oh, and transferred in a lower through Black Hammer arms... a side folding lower... and got a side charging upper.. and a 5" rail.. and... a grip with a 15* grip angle which is amazing for keeping it in close, REALLY feels like you're holding a pistol, and not an AR....

So, still waiting for buffer tube, extended mag release, and muzzle device (mini blast forwarder) ....

I'm debating on which front grip to use, although I may just settle with a handstop or maybe even a magwelll grip, given the length of the bbl is perilously short.......

Yes, that's a red solo cup for scale...

:D

Hm, but if you only use it for 22, you don't even need the buffer tube right?

bbl is 5.56, and the entire idea is to have a folding lower... I didn't waste $250 on a lower that has a folding mechanism just to put a plug in it ;)

It's also nice to have some extra weight in the back, to stabilize things....

I figured I'd update.

Went with a KAK mico flash can.

.22LR is annoyingly loud, but not painful, without ears.

Does a decent job of pushing the blast from .223 away, and wasn't as loud as I thought it'd be.

Optic is Romeo 5XDR, which is kinda like an Aimpoint with auto on, and a reticle of an Eotech. I love the circle dot reticle and huge window of the Eotech, but the instant on capabilities of this, the amazing battery life and the smaller footprint sold me on it.

I was looking for something MP5K sized... Shooting for 14.5".... But I figured anything under 16" would be golden. I built it on a lower I hadn't used before, with side folding adapter built in.. and wasn't completely sure of overall length before I put everything together... but I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled the tape measure out, and measured 13.75"... almost an inch shorter than I was originally projecting.

I was also concerned about accidentally grabbing a flaming hot handguard if I wasn't wearing gloves, and with the new rules coming down the pipeline about grips on pistols, I opted to think outside the box. I used an offset m-lok picatinny rail adapter designed for flashlight mounts to act as a buffer. Now I can comfortably move the pistol with 1 hand without my hand being on the grip and without burning myself. I intend on putting rubber rail covers on it to protect my hand from the handguard when I'm moving it/putting it down. :D

like the ingenuity to keep burns away.

Is the barrel nut steel or aluminum? Steel (as does Ti) has much lower conductivity and will keep that handguard cooler longer. Of course this is robbing Peter to pay Paul as it translates to longer barrel cooldown times.
