Northeast of Kangley, south of North Bend.
47.391761, -121.819478

I zoomed in looking at Google maps satellite imagery. Is this a former shooting pit? Active pit? Something else?

Sounds like Lester.

Guess I should have looked at the coordinates first. Ignore me

Most of the land out there is City of Seattle. Some is DNR. City of Seattle owns everything for a loooong way around Chester Morse Lake (except to its north which is mostly USFS). Can't shoot on city land, and can't even get to a lot of it.

The DNR land is all gated and posted no shooting. All of it. Every road that leads to a shootable pit in that region is gated a few miles out and signed for no shooting. The only pit in King County on DNR land is the Duvall "Honey Hole," and it kind of sucks.

The King and Kittitas counties' parcel viewers are pretty good UX wise and make finding spots on the I90 corridor easy, though still time consuming. Snohomish's viewer has a pretty crappy UX, but it's usable if you have a lot of patience.

Those coordinates are for a parcel that is owned by the city of Seattle

Thanks for the tips on the parcel viewer. I see that it's owned by city of Seattle.

Still, gotta wonder what it's been used for. Sand for roads during a snow? Front loader motocoross? ....

I'm betting that's Cedar River Watershed property and I'm guessing it's no bueno for shooting.

Roads have to be maintained for truck access in case of a forest fire. Small gravel pits are all over. If they are not being enlarged, they are holding sites for gravel that is trucked in.
