This sucks. I live right under the Medford pit and have to function test a new AR build and now it is closed so I have to use the shooting range or drive down river then up the other side to Potts Pit and then back around the river to home.

From the DNR Horse's mouth:
Hi Kyle,

Sorry about not getting a notice to you about the closure of the pit. Yes its currently closed Monday through Friday and open on the weekends. Currently there is operations and equipment in the pit removing rock for building some forest roads nearby. I’m not sure about any “horse only signs” and I have talked to Hyden and he has not seen any Horse only signs lately. Do you know where they might be located? I will contact the compliance forester to get an update to see when the contractor will be done in the pit.

As far as the clean-up goes that is always a good thing that folks are willing to do this and I will help out as much as I can. I have heard through some other recreational folks there is some “talk” from another group wanting to do a clean-up this spring. I will also try and get more information about this and see who it might be. It could be with you r group but I don’t know for sure.

I looked at google earth and I didn't see any gravel pits along potts road. It looks residential.

Thanks for chasing down that info, Kyle. I'm pleased to hear it's open on weekends, although I have to wonder if the presence of large equipment will limit the available shooting space.

Count me in on the next clean-and-shoot.

I see a small gravel pit off rocky creek rd after it splits off potts road. Is it OK to shoot there? Looks like there are some houses around.

Also saw a gravel pit off alger hill road in google earth. I will check all of them out as soon as the snow melts.

Went up there a few weeks ago and found it closed again for some work going on around the pit.
Is there a web sight that I can find out the status of the pit before I drive 1.5 hours?
