the GPS coordinates are 47.120468,-121.529893

Google maps will give directions from your location just copy and paste the above GPS coordinates into the end destination field.

Are both pits closed, or just the lower one?

I can tell you for certain the lower pit is closed till Oct 15th. I decided to take a drive and check out some of the roads. The place was packed with folks camping. At one campsite the Ranger had a guy in cuffs blocking the road with his vehicle. They have been doing some clear cutting on one of the cut-off roads that will take you up to FS72. Also FS72 is open if you keep going down Hwy 410 to just past mile marker 48, however you can only go to the 3.5 mile mark from hwy 410 due to the snow depth and a huge ass boulder in the middle of the road.

At the curve on FS 70 where the bridge & bathrooms are, is a bunch of construction. Evidently the river washed out that road that went back along the river and they are repairing it and have signs all over the place saying keep out.

I found some really cool camping spots off FS73 (right side of hwy 410). If there is a planned campout this summer get with me and I'll fill you in on several large group sites that you can tent or drive a camper or RV up to.

The lower pit has the following laminated letter posted.

I know the forest service is doing alot of work up there during the work week. They probably don't care to have people shooting while they are working.
