AS OF 2017-05-11.

Wonder why we can't have nice things.

Overall not as bad as I expected.
There appears to be an ongoing upkeep by the look of area.
As I was leaving, a crew came in to install a roof on top of this bulletin.
I went up to them to say hi and express my appreciation for their work.
They were quite receptive.

It took me a while to get there because I kept getting distracted by the scenery.

Thanks for the effort!

I would love to, but I will be in Fort Myers area at that time.

I will make sure to join in the one after.

I took some trash with me, but I am sure it made zero difference in the grand scheme of things.

Thank you! And heck no, that doesn't make "zero difference," it makes ALL the difference. The future of these shooting areas doesn't lie in the hands of volunteers cleaning up periodically; it lies in the hands of EVERYONE keeping the areas clean as they use them. Just as we've trained society (generally) not to throw McDonalds trash and empty soda cans out the car window, we need to train society to stop leaving garbage out in the woods.

So when you pick up a little trash, you accomplish a few things:

1) Well, obviously, you cleaned up a little.
2) You set an example to anyone else who is there. Peer pressure works. They will think twice before leaving garbage after just watching you work to clean up, and maybe they'll even get some extra themselves.
3) When an area is trashy, people will leave more trash. If an area is clean, people are more likely to leave it clean. So by cleaning it up a little, you may have prevented the next guy from leaving his garbage.

Thanks to everyone who is a part of the solution. thumbsup

Was up at the clear cut today. A bit of trash on the ground but not a ton. Looked like somebody had swept up several piles of shotgun shells and lit them on fire. One of the rakes looks to have gone AWOL unfortunately. Had the whole area to ourselves except for one range chicken pecking brass(was pretty well picked over before we got there and I police my own :handload: ). Weather was interesting, got hit with all four seasons. Rain, sunshine, sleet and snow flurries. Even got a bit of sunshine before we left to fly my racing quad.

Thanks for the update. Good to know how fast these areas are being trashed.
