Hello there. Just a local shooter that is concerned of the status of our shooting pits at capitol forest. I was up there this last weekend and there was some places that needed some attention. I spoke to a gentleman working for the DNR and he said that the target shooting in the area is in jeopardy because of garbage being left and near miss shots over trails. There is a meeting scheduled Thursday, June 2 at The Evergreen State College Longhouse Education and Cultural Center, 2800 Dogtooth Lane NW, Olympia, WA 98505. The meeting is to talk about what people can do to keep things safe and clean at the shooting areas. Anyone who enjoys shooting at capitol forest is encouraged to join. I am hoping to go to the forest shooting areas this weekend and consolidate some of the garbage into one pile. If anyone would like to join, it would be appreciated.

I'm gonna make that one too. Wonder how many non shooters will be there. I haven't heard much locally about it, I have a few friends who are involved in the sort of hippy outdoor stuff that would attract anti commentary. If we are lucky, mostly shooters will show up.

I went to capital forest for the first time in October. Great place, clean, not a spec of garbage & I saw the waguns signs. Great work guys! Well I'm sorry to say I went & shot there today & it was a shit hole. Garbage everywhere. I was so disappointed. I'd be willing to go down this weekend & help fill some garbage bags.
Hey riflesnob23 if you're in Edgewood then we're neighbors. Shoot me a PM & lemme know which day.

If there is any day worth taking off for work it would be for the meeting on June 2nd. We are in danger of loosing our places to shoot if we do not step up and do some cleaning as well as speak up at this meeting. It's just as much a burden on or more than anyone else. I have a 2 years old daughter and a pregnant wife. But we must make sacrifices for things we cherish. So please if anyone can help. I'm thinking Saturday at about 9 or 10 am we will meet at the triangle pit. My main focus is cleaning some of the spots up past the rock quarry that are a little more difficult to get to. Cbass I will message you with more details. And thanks for the warm welcome Waguns.org

First we're having to protect target shooting in Greenwater last year now it looks like it has spread out everywhere else. These problems have been there for a long time but within two years the threat of more areas being shut down has really picked up. If one forest gets target shooting shut down i believe it will have an domino effect.

That is correct MADrtcw. We need to do anything we can to prevent any place from shutting down.

Ok so a little update here. I spoke to Barry Godfrey today of the DNR. He was the gentleman that I ran into last weekend when I was shooting. He seems to be a really nice guy. He will most likely aid me in cleaning some of the debris at the upper pits this weekend. Barry also said he can shut the triangle pit down for us if we can all come together on a day to do it, so we can clean trash, roast some hot dogs, and do some shooting. Sounds like a really cool DNR representative that enjoys shooting. So once again I think the plan will be to meet at the triangle pit at 10 o clock AM on Saturday if anyone would like to help. Bring a rain coat because it looks like it's going to rain. Our main focus is the honey holes past the upper rock quarry. A larger group of people will be needed to clean the triangle pit. I will be in a green subaru outback. Thanks everyone.
