A week ago, a birdie told me of a range opening... in DOWNTOWN Olympia. Not believing it, I did some looking and found it. Called the Glacier Gun Club, and it's located literally a couple hundred feet from the Olympia City Hall.

I reached out to them and Mike, the Co-Owner, called me right back. We talked about the range, the slight exclusivity of it (more on that soon) and the atmosphere he hopes to provide. This range is attached to... Get this... a Liquor Store, and they cross the business in a few ways with their memberships.

Mike explained to me that the range is a member only range. Not very big, at only 40' and 6 lanes, Glacier is hoping to entice you with luxury. The Range lounge will have a nice espresso bar, expensive leather couches and a high end "club" feel.

They are limiting their membership to 1,000 people (500 men and 500 women is the goal). Members will be put through a background and will need to prove competency in their ability to shoot. Holster draw and rapid fire are allowed (once signed off by GGC staff). This is a pistol (and pistol caliber) range only. They are hoping to attract business people. People who want to come during their lunch breaks, in the evenings, or weekends to do a little shooting. This isn't a place where baggy pants will be allowed... While I don't think there is a written dress code, I am sure something will be created if there is an issue.

They offer different membership levels based on the needs of the shooters, starting at $25/month. They offer a great program for Active Duty MIL as well.

Just a few minutes ago, Mike called me again and invited me to a tour of the facility tomorrow evening. I hope to take some pictures and will report back when I know more.

So far, this sounds like a cool place to just go and shoot a few rounds... A nice private experience for the shooters who just want to shoot.

Very interesting, any mention if the owner has talked to the neighbors to make sure the city council isn't pressured (in the future) to close the range downwhen the neighbors get wind of this??

Also any mention of ventilation plans??

Also will members be able to bring a guest once in awhile, could make it a bit more appealing to be able to bring a buddy or two or the girlfriend??

A lot has been done to mitigate sound issues.

All new ventilation, top of the line havac, target and bullet trap systems have been installed.

Yes, there will be an occasional "family" day or time on a weekend day. Details of this have not been explained yet, but I will find out more tomorrow.

Sounds like an interesting gun club. Be interesting to see the pictures of the place for sure!

The prices dont seem to bad overall either. 30 bucks a month for 7 day a week unlimited shooting.

BYOAmmo. You have to use their ammo if you use their rental guns (I don't know types of guns, or prices).

And a full review shall be forthcoming!
