I haven't looked at the distances and elevations, but it seems like that they'd (we'd?) have to be doing mortar-like shots to lob into that train crossing.

Pretty much what I was thinking at the scene. Jamie came to the same conclusion when I was yacking with him at the CHS FB game.

The situation sucks for sure, but I don't blame the club for taking the conservative path here. It's not worth taking a chance on getting shut down forever.

That's what I was thinking. If they have to shut down the range because of people working in that area, what happens when it's finished and people start using the trail? You know some granola cruncher will complain that the gun nuts are shooting at him. Just seems to me this gives the county/state/whomeverthefuck the right to shut the range down at a later date.

A few of us went out yesterday afternoon right at 4. No problems getting a spot but as most said, the angles, hill, trees and location of the work doesn't add up. When you walk on the trail, if your not used to guns and wet yourself anytime you hear a car back fire, then yes. It sounds like a war zone in Lebanon and stuff is dropping all around you. If you think for a minute that the sounds you hear are the creek, wind and normal wilderness and some "fireworks" in the background then you will be ok.

Welcome to the world of government workers. They HEARD the shooting and decided they didn't like is do what do they do? Why simple, demand the range shut down while they're working, what else. Saw the same thing happen some years ago when a Deputy Sheriff heard some duck hunters almost a mile away from where he was standing. Got on his PA and demanded they cease fire as they were endangering people a mile away with their bird shot. I'm wondering if the intelligence level of most County workers is declining --------- or if it ever developed in the first place

By the way, the club did send out an email today: Quote: To all range members:
As result of safety concerns for a construction crew working down range of the 200yd berm, the range is closed week days from 7am to 4pm. This closure is effective immediately and will last for an unknown duration. The range will remain open 4pm to 9pm weekdays, and 9am to 9pm weekends. Board members are working as fast as possible to resolve the issue and return the range to normal operating hours while providing a safe working environment for the construction crew. Updates will be available on the web site as soon as more information is available. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Sincerely, SVRC Board
