I was finally able to get up to Capital Forest today...I didn't have the map with me so I just kinda drove in the general direction from Waddell Creek Road up to Capital Peak Road, so I can't say for sure about specific spots, but I was dismayed to see that most places had no shooting signs. The one on the map that is the second to last towards the left (South) on the map, which is on a corner with a large open lot above, is not only no shooting but also has a watchman (shown in the pics with blue arrow). I almost stopped to ask him where I *could* shoot but decided to keep going. Not too far from there was a little road off to the right and down that ended fairly quickly in a ditch and stumps that I decided to try, since I saw no signs and it looked really safe, and someone else has been shooting there.
I really just wanted to practice accuracy with one hand and I'm happy to say I feel pretty comfy that way with my 9mm. I put a few magazines through her with all I had as targets (this was an impromptu "let's see what's up there"). So all I had was a couple of cans, a plastic bottle, and a tennis ball. Sorry to say the tennis ball is still up there in the bushes somewhere. ;-)
The site was pretty clean but I did pick up what garbage was there as long with some shells and casings that someone else had left. I left the clay pieces...I hope that is alright, since I would have been there all day!
Anyway, had some fun but it's sad to see so many places off limits. Already a drive for me from Allyn, but an enjoyable road. I will still keep looking in Tahuya, but staying away from trails is difficult there.

The upper pit "honey hole #1", is closed temporarily for a rock sale/mining. It's only for a couple of weeks.

It has been a couple of years since I was down to the " Triangle Pit". Is Frank, the guy who used to pick up there, still around?

cootduster No, Frank got sick a few months ago and it is unlikely that he will be returning to volunteer service for DNR. That's one of the reasons DNR called me and asked me to get a clean up event scheduled.... Which we have, see here ----> viewforum.php?f=123

if you dont pick up clay pieces, then stomp on them and help grind them up so they degrade faster.

On a much less serious note, any tweeker looking brass-picker-uppers may be dealt with in much the same manner! As to Tahuya, I have been up and around there on the moto, and have not seen any spots yet. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough.

Ok, I will do what I can with the clay, those these were pretty well shot up. And good thing I don't look like a tweeker! I guess they sell the brass for $$? I have a friend who does reloads.

About a month ago we also noticed that Honey Hole #1 was being mined. Has anyone been up there since to see if it is open again?
