I'm looking for a pistol range a bit less than the 75' (25 yards) I have been seeing around. Maybe I'm defective but training with a 2" snubby at 75' is just annoying.

I don't know about ranges up North, but Champion has an indoor range that is 25 yards MAXIMUM. The targets hang from garage door openers and you don't have to run them to the far end to shoot (most people seem to run them out to about 7 yards, 20 feet) for SD practice.

Where have you seen a 25-yard minimum? I don't think I've ever seen that . . . and yes, that's too long for most pistol shooting.
The places that I shoot -- Wade's, West Coast Armory, Renton Fish & Game Club, Evergreen Sportsman's Club, Champion Arms -- all have shorter distances than that. Most of the indoor ranges will have mechanized target holders that allow you to run your target out to any distance up to the length of the range.

I've checked out this one, and several others in the area that have been mentioned here, and most seem to be members only, is this SOP around here ?

No, most are not members-only.
West Coast Armory requires a membership, but that's the only one on my list that does.

The bronze membership at WCA is only $20 or $25 I forget though, you pay a range fee on each visit, but it's pretty reasonable.
Issaquah sportsmans club is another one that is outdoor that is a open to the public, I think they're only like $12 a visit and have a pistol area with close targets as well as a rifle area up to 100 yds
