I just bought my first gun - a Mossberg 500 shotgun - and I don't know where to shoot it! I know there are rifle ranges in the area, but which ones allow shotgun shooting? I know there are also places in the area where I could shoot skeet and trap, but what about stationary target shooting? We bought this gun for home defense and for recreational shooting and I want to get good at shooting it. Thanks!

Thanks! The only outdoor free place I saw on the map was the Greenwater Shooting Pit, and that's quite a drive! Are there any others?

It is about equal distance out to Ashford, but you can set up whatever targets you like out there.

Is it safe? The Greenwater pits have had articles written about them as being unsafe and a kid got shot there. I want to take my wife somewhere so we can both shoot the shotgun, but all the ranges around here require us to shoot slugs.

It is only as safe as the people there unfortunately. I prefer to go during the week or very early on the weekends. It can get a little crowded during the summer weekends.

Do you know if there have been accidents there?

No accidents that I am aware of.

If all you want to do is shoot shotguns, any logging road up there is more than acceptable. Take the Scott Turner road outside of Eatonville and drive until you are past the last houses and start to go up the hill. Anywhere up there is safe for shotguns. It also happens to be the other side of the hill from the Ashford honey hole in case you get lost.

When I checked a year and a half ago, BullsEye (Tacoma Dome area) was the only INDOOR range I found that allows shotties. They require 00 buckshot and didn't have any problem with our pistol-grip-only Mossberg 500 Chainsaw. I'd give a review, but we never made it down there.

Tacoma Sportsmans Club now allows bird shot on the rifle range. There is a pistol/birdshot lane on their rifle range.

Spectacular! I'll call them and double check. That would be ideal 'cause they're local. Thanks!
