Like many the sound of ringing steel really spices up the shooting for me. I was at TSC on Sunday and they have a new gong in place. It is a ways past the 200meter line, I am thinking probably 250meter. It is a big heavy gong, honestly the 223 you can barely hear that you are hiting it, some of the hunters there and large caliber guys had it singing nicely. This was my 1st time not only shooting my AR, but having steel to shoot at. I did not make an attempt at it until the end of the day as I had barrel break in and sighting in to do, but the last 10-15 rounds of the day I put on the plate and just had a blast.
It got me wondering, are there other ranges that have steel targets up normally? I mean on normal days, not "steel match" days only. It would be really nice if there was a range that had them at shorter ranges as well to get singing with the 223 and the 10/22 rounds. I believe it would be a great asset to get younger shooters going. I know there was a couple teens/families sighting in that really enjoyed it yesterday.
