Seeking new range/club to join (ISA sponsor?)

Fri Apr 02, 2021 12:44 pm

Hey folks. Been trying to find a good range/club to join. I've been shooting trap, rifle and pistol regularly at Kenmore, WCA, Renton Fish and Game, etc and while they are all good ranges in their own way, I feel limited shooting there without a membership. However if I'm going to be paying hundreds of dollars a year in membership fees I'd prefer to do it somewhere that doesn't have public access and gives exclusive usage of facilities to members and guests.

The main options I have seen that fit the bill (that are a reasonable distance away from me) are Interlake Sporting Association and Cascade Shooting Facilities. I know cascade has a wait list a mile long, and ISA you need a sponsor to join. Was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions, or if there are any ISA members on here who might be willing to sponsor someone? I'm more than willing to come out to work parties or range cleanups to meet more people in the 2A community.

Thanks guys, any tips help!

Cascade's waiting list is not only a mile long, but is closed for now . . . so it's not really an option for the moment, anyhow.

Try SVRC.

SVRC looks like a great option, I'll check them out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, I've had the range at SVRC all to myself many a times. They exclude the public, unless accompanied by a club member. Cost of membership is very reasonable.

Definitely check out SVRC. It's a very laid back club most of the time, and like others have said it isn't hard to have the place to yourself.

How about their leadership! Am I right?

Does an RSO have to present to shoot at SVRC?

Not that I've ever heard. Did you assume that or has that been an issue before?

At black diamond gun club, an RSO must be present to shoot. It’s kind of a pain too, because the position is all filled by volunteers. No RSO no shooting.

BD has a requirement that an RSO be present for members to shoot. FYI membership there are on hold currently.

SVRC doesn’t require RSO but mandates each member take responsibility for themselves and other members for the good of the club. Was a member there 4-5 years ago.

I go there with a friend sometimes (BDGC) While it's a decent range, the rifle area is limited to 100 yards and the bench/line area is small. All of the RSO's have been friendly BTW, just a hassle to have a babysitter. We've had to cancel because no RSO. I think I'm going to join SVRC when we get back from our trip.

Quick question for any members of SVRC, are the smaller shooting bays for action pistol and more engaged shooting styles open to general member usage or are they only opened for events? Being able to move and shoot through those courses outside of competitions sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to train.

The action bays can only be used for the disciplines since they have to shut down the entire range to use them.

Gotcha so normal every day usage is rifle range and pistol range. Is it bring your own target and stands or are there stands out there and you just need to bring paper? And can I bring out steel targets and set them up to shoot?

Thanks for the info, appreciate it!
