Things have been a little hectic around here for the last month.
Then I worked out of town for two weeks.
I returned home last Friday and had stuff to do on Saturday. I took my grandson up to the 435th pit in Darrington mid-afternoon on Sunday.
Both pits were in use when we got there so we waited until the guys in the lower pit were done shooting and used that pit.
Mason shot his 223 AR15, the AK47 and the Ruger 77/22lr rifle we picked up.
I set up a bunch of soda cans full of water. We bet $1 a shot, he hits a can he gets $1.
If he misses a can I get a dollar.
He walked away with $3.
All shooting off hand at 35 yards.

I picked up a five gallon bucket of spent shotgun hulls and seven gallons of steel rifle and pistol cases.
And maybe a pound of brass cases.
We got there shortly after 3pm and stayed until 7:30 or so.
He had a great time.
Maybe next weekend I like to hook up with a few of you guys early on Saturday or Sunday morning to do a good clean up at the 435th pit.
There isn't much there, maybe a full size pickup truck load.

The snow level on White Horse Mountain dropped significantly from the 100 degree plus temperatures we had a few weeks ago.

I took Mason up to the 435th pit this past Sunday afternoon. We left the house at 3pm and left the pit at 8:30.he got to shoot his AR15, the AK47 and the Ruger 77/22lr.

We picked up a five gallon bucket of steel rifle and pistol cases, a bucket of spent shotgun hulls and a little brass.
I took 25 gallons of apples to the mother in laws and I took Twenty gallons of apples up by the pit for the deer to eat on. I dumped ten gallons of apples at two different places. This weekend I will pick up another Twenty or thirty gallons of apples to take up to Darrington for the deer.
Plus I will grab a bunch of table salt from Walmart to dump with the apples. The last time I put salt out I bought Twenty pounds of it for 52 cents a pound.

It was really hazy on Sunday.

We meet up a couple of WaGun Forum members this morning at 8am and went to the 435th Ave pits. A mutual friend met me at the house to go up there.

After we got all set up in the lower pit I walked up to the upper pit and picked up the spent shotgun hulls and some steel rifle and pistol cases and what little brass they left behind.

Someone set the left side of the lower pit on fire since the last time we went up there.
It looks like it went out on it's own. It could of got really bad.
I'm sure when the DNR Law Enforcement guy makes his rounds and sees that they will shut the Western side down to shooting.

We have gone up there a lot since the big clean up at the Suaittle River Road pits.
Like every other weekend there is always some spent shotgun hulls and steel & pistol cases to pick up.

Here are a few pick from our trips up there.

Thank you Steve, it is relaxing for me being up in the woods with my grandson and doing my part to keep it clean.
A few hours a week and it helps a lot to keep it maintained.

I called Mark Arneson today, he is the DNR District manager for that section of DNR land.
They are working on the 18 road with a grader, I asked him if they could take it down the road to the pit and work on that really rutted up spot.
He said that the work being done on the road is another department with in the DNR. They sold off a lumber allotment and they are fixing the road for the heavy equipment and log trucks.

I asked him if the department that does road repairs can fix up that really bad spot. He said he will check into it.
He did say that the repairs on that road is penciled in for next spring.

We also talked about a large fir tree some one cut just below the rutted up spot.they cut the tree down and took a long section or a big load of firewood.
If any one has any information on who did this he world like the information to pass on the the DNR law enforcement officers.

We also talked about the fire some jackass started in the lower pit.
They caught to person responsible for the fire and will be prosecuted. They shot off a incendiary round that started the fire.
The fire department got the fire out before it started a major forest fire.

We went to the small pit on the Suaittle River Road this past weekend to do a little shooting. I took Mason and one of his friends that never touched a gun before.
My friend Bill from Sedro-Wooley brought his two grandsons.
And Jim from Granite Falls came as well.

We met up at the small pit at 1:00. There was two guys there who were sighting in a 308 rifle. They shot for close to half an hour and packed it up.
We set our tables up and got things rolling.

We had paper targets, soda cans full of water, plastic rolling targets, steel targets and balloons.
Mason's friend is a lefty, he did amazing hitting his target for never shooting before.
He can't wait to get back out again.
Bill's youngest grandson is six and gets bored fast.
His older grandson Mason is around my Mason's age and stays focused longer.
Jim from Granite Falls came by himself.

I picked up two smaller buckets of old steel rifle and pistol cases.
Bill left around 4 o'clock and Jim left shortly afterwards.
We stayed until 8pm. Before we left we picked up two 5 gallon buckets of shotgun hulls.
My son wants to start reloading shotgun so I will be separating the good ones out for him.

He is looking for 410, 20 gauge, 16 gauge and 12 gauge shotgun reloading equipment if any one has anything to sell.

We will be doing an adult shoot here shortly.
Mostly military stuff.
M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Mini.14, SKS, AK47, Old Mousers.
It will be a fun day.
After that we will take the kids out again.

Went to the 435th pit around 3pm on Saturday and picked up five gallons of shotgun hulls and about five gallons of steel rifle and pistol cases and a gallon of brass. Left the pit a little after 7PM a stopped by Scruffy's place to visit and had a few drinks with him and talked about the up coming hunting season.
Time sure flies when you are having fun. Looked at the phone and it was after midnight.

Not much snow on Whitehorse.
