Saturday, July 6th is good for me. Who wants to join? I'm an early riser, so I'd plan to knock out the cleanup early and have time to shoot before lunch, but I can be flexible on the start date. In the meantime, I'll reach out to DNR. If anyone has a suggestion for a good contact there, I'm happy to take it - just send me a PM.

July 6th works for me as well, but I have plans in the evening and would need to leave by 4:30pm, so I too would lean for an early start.

I am working on wrangling up a few warm bodies to bring with me.

Has anyone been to the pit recently? Report on conditions?

Count me in, i haven't been to this pit so I would like to follow some one there.
I use a magnet from Harbor Freight to pick up the shotgun hulls and steel rifle & pistol cases. I collect them in plastic buckets. The shotgun hulls go in a dumpster and the steel rifle h pistol cases get dumped in the metal recycle dumpster at the Arlington transfer station.

We picked up two - 5 gallon buckets of steel rifle & pistol cases yesterday from the lower Darrington Pit.
Went back out there shooting at the upper pit and picked up another four - 5 gallon buckets of steel rifle & pistol cases and a 3 gallon bucket of shothun hulls.

Every trip I pick up a few buckets of shotgun hulls or steel rifle & pistol cases.

The pit farther down the road was less accessible but we did some work to leave it better than when we got there. Main pit didn’t look too bad actually.

Do we have a meetup time?
Meeting at the park and ride again?
Have we co-ordinated with DNR to close the pit while we are there?

I'll bring a wheelbarrow and can supply trash bags if the DNR does not. I'll also have a couple steel target for the fun portion.

DNR confirmed they will be there between 9 and 9:30 AM on Saturday to close down the pit for us to clean. I plan to be there at 9.

As for meeting up at the pit vs. shuttling from the P&R, I suppose that depends upon turnout.

To everyone reading this, if you plan on attending this Saturday, please chime in here with a head count (example: "I'll be there, and I'm dragging my dumbass brother-in-law along"). Parking is tight up there so I'd like to figure this out now as opposed to the day of. Also, remember, if you plan to drive and park at the pit, you need a Discover Pass.

I'll bring a wheelbarrow, trash bags, a couple rakes, 5-gallon buckets, and a 10'x10' canopy. I can probably haul all the trash to the transfer station in my truck as well.

I plan on being there by myself. I will take all the steel rifle & pistol cases. I have plastic buckets and two magnets.
Can we burn any wood that people used for target stands or what ever?

Also should we all chip in for the dump fee?

I will bring some coke & sprite on ice.

I would like to meet some one in Monroe & follow you to the pit. I have never been to any of the pits out that way.

If DNR will be there, any chance we could get them to allow driving up to the pit? It would be much easier and productive to fill the bed of a pickup than a few little buckets. Who has been in contact with them?

I'm pretty sure that's not an option...the pit is down a short walking path from the road/parking area. There is no vehicle access.

I ended up getting a friend wanting to shoot on Saturday. I’ll be in the area but may not use that main pit. Either way I’ll be packing out at least an extra bag of stuff.

Bump for tomorrow! DNR and I will be there at 9 AM to shut down the pit for clean-up. We'll bag up the trash and leave it near the road for DNR to pick up.
