I have a form 1 approved and my kit, but I don’t own any machine tools to bore. I know that you need a speed controlled drill press as boring through metal can temper the steel, but I noticed those presses are orders of magnitude more expensive.

Anyone know of a shop I can rent tools from that can accomplish finishing my kit? I’m not sure on the legalities, but I wouldn’t want to do anything to make shops uncomfortable, which I imagine a lot of them would be with this subject matter.

Do you already have a drill press?

I just used a regular drill and the included bit for the steel and aluminum baffles of my Quietbore kit.

I’ve got a lot of tools, but not a drill press. I was thinking if I was going to buy a press, I may as well get a variable speed or a mill, but dang, even the harbor freights are pricey. Do you guys think I should just get a drill press? Would it be able to clip as well or should I just dremel them?

I’ve got a SPC titanium kit with 2 steel baffles that I would have to drill.

This is the answer. Just drill slow, don't be me and have to either sharpen or replace your drill bit.

If you are that worried about temperature just use some cutting fluid. It would be difficult to work harden mild steel with a new bit. A small drill press can be had on craiglist or Facebook marketplace. Grab a benchtop for 50 bucks and resell it when you are done. They are pretty handy though.

Correctly. Spindle/chuck speed does not mean it will drill better. In fact, its almost completely the opposite. If you're drilling Ti, I'm sorry. Good luck. Not real fun or feasible to do at home.
