So i cant find any referance to a DMR(or nightvision) version of the BM59. Is there one? I just bought a pair of italian made receivers today for a my italian and Argentine kits. Next they go out to shuffs. Also how picky are .308 garands with ammo?

Has anyone here had their Garand converted to 7.62? I would like to shoot my Garand more but 30.06 for the Garand is not getting any cheaper.

No, but have fired such. With irons, I can't see far enough to pick out a standard paper target bull such that there is a noticeable difference. Lots of good conversions out there, a few Italian factory rifles. CMP has them in the Special grade at $1250. Shuff's Parkerizing has some interesting mods including a BM59 style Garand that takes M14 mags, or what Shufflin calls a Mini-G, a 16" brush rifle. The Mini-G can also be had with M14 mag conversion. I am not a purest. The platform has been around for 80 plus years, almost all rifles have gone through at least one armory, or equivalent, rebuild and there have been hundreds of mods attempted, a few successfully. Getting worked up over spilled milk is pointless. CMP is quite adept at rebuilding rifles, frequently using new parts, particularly stocks and barrels.

I have an M1A so I would like to keep the Garand in its normal configuration. The receiver dates towards the very end of WW2 so I don't think I am messing up anything collector worthy. It could be a mix master for all I know. I will probably go through CMP. I want to shoot the rifle more than I do now and I think .308 is the way to go.

I would agree. Ammo costs and surplus ammo availability are better for .308. Odds are any Garand is mix master.
If I needed to replace a Garand barrel I would go .308.
