This is from an early 90's Colt Sporter Hbar. 29" 20" barrel, Rifle gas. Rifle has maybe 500 ends through it. What's up with that?

Shot mostly Federal m855 and Black Hills 62gr SP

Soft metal?
Previously used buffer?
I’ve seen machine guns with less wear.

My first AR, so I'm pretty sure of the round count.

I forgot to mention that I replaced the bcg with a full auto carrier, but the buffer is OEM.

When you close the upper onto the lower, does the BCG rest upon/slightly press on the buffer? It should. It looks like to me you have some BCG slap happening.

Answer wisely, Jim.

Yup, COLT parts from Specialized Armament.
Had him shave the steel block COLT put in those Sporters to plug the third hole.
I'll check that slop issue mid-week and report back.

Hard to tell from the blurry pic...it kinda looks like the outer rim of the buffer is nicked up as well. If so that means the buffer is constantly contacting the retainer pin after every cycle.

Dan is spot on...the buffer shouldn't contact the pin unless the upper is clear. I'm suspect of your carrier. I've never seen that kind of damage, even after thousands of rounds.

Make sure that carrier has a "C" on it, on the left side below the key.

If you still have the original semi auto carrier...reinstall it and a new Colt buffer and run it for a couple hundred rounds. See if it reoccurs.

Oops. Fracking touch screen typing or bad eyesight...poor proofreading? It's a 20" barrel.

May need more than a sharpie. JB weld? Bondo? (Jk)

BCG touches and slightly depressed buffer when closing
Carrier is C marked.
