The Hellcat OSP has been out for a while now and I was wondering what is a good optic to get, w/o getting crazy on the price?

I just got the Wasp sold by Springfield ($239) for my son's Hellcat. It's entry level, battery on the bottom and ON all the time, so that makes it cheaper than others. Since I got this one, I saw Crimson Trace has a budget model too that looked pretty good...and cheap. Holsun gets a lot of high marks in most of the reviews and would probably have been at the top of a "buy once, cry once list", for not that much more money. When shopping around, go online and check out the charts that show which optics fit the Hellcat "footprint" and then check out the reviews.

Merry Christmas Scooter.

I got one of the Swampfox Sentenials.

It's ok, but does not cowitness well with the irons, so the jury is still out as to whether I keep it or sell it and get an RMSC.

You can get a Sig Romeo Zero for around $150-160 when it goes on sale. But if you're buying a new Hellcat OSP, you may be able to get the Hex WASP with the pistol for less than the cost of purchasing pistol + Romeo Zero separately.

That might be worth looking into.

Wait, how does that work if it's your CC on your person and you are moving around all the time?
Wouldn't that cause the battery to be on ALL THE TIME?

Yup, except maybe at night when you presumably aren’t wearing it.

But the alternative is an always-on dot, which would be on 24 hours a day.

The only saving grace with the 'always on' feature on many of these optics is that due to the Auto Brightness control, in dark conditions, the LED/dot is at the lower setting(s). So, theoretically when stored, or in some holsters or concealed carry/EDC situations the battery draw is minimal and might actually get the 2 yr. claimed battery life.

I haven't seen yet whether or how close the units return to being zeroed after being removed to replace the battery and reinstalled. Seems if the iron sights co-witness properly you could just tweak the dot to sit on top of the front sight blade and be close until you can verify at the range?
Anybody have any experience with this?

EDIT
After reading further, I decided against this one. I want the 6 MOA, which is not on sale. :reaction:

I can highly recommend EuroOptic. Call up and ask for Brandon, he'll take good care of you.

I had the Shield SMSc since release because it was really the only available metal cased dot that was made to fit the Hellcat when the gun was introduced. The SMSc had an aluminum frame but the lens was acrylic that scratched right from the get go. Battery life was about a year for me and the dot did not hold zero after changing out the battery twice. It served its purpose up for about 2 years until this Black Friday.

I recently replaced the SMSc with the Hex Wasp because I still wanted the cowitnessing with the stock sites. Additionally the Wasp has an all metal housing with a slightly longer hood over the glass lens, and is rated IPX7. SA warranty is way better than the Shield warranty. I considered the Swampfox Sentinel but read reviews on it not being able to properly cowitness with the irons. Also didn’t want to add any adapter plates for other brands. Ruled out the Sig because I’m not a fan of polymer cased dots.

Anyhow, good luck with whatever you end up with.

This information is well worth me asking.
I do know, after reading more and more, that MOA 6 is my end goal. Just for starters.
Everything else, I'm still trying to figure out.
