It looks like there are issues were the safety disconnect in some P320's is shearing off making it possible for the gun to drop fire. The military is saying it's happening to their guns after 5000 rounds: https://john1911.com/wp-content/uploads ... proved.pdf The upshot is that every time you clean your P320 you should perform this simple function test: 1. Remove the slide 2. Turn the slide upside down on the table 3. Try and move the striker forward with your finger, shouldn't move (striker is the "hook" at the back of your side) 4. Press the safety disconnector and again try and move the striker--now it should move forward (that's the "fin" next to the striker) This will prove that your firing pin block and safety disconnector are working. In step 4 if you have also removed the barrel you would be able to observe the firing pin protruding out of the striker assembly. You should NOT see it protrude out of the striker assembly unless the safety disconnector has been depressed. If the reported issue is true (if), and if it happened to your gun (if), then this test would fail on your gun because the safety disconnector would be missing, and you would be able to freely move the striker forward without pressing anything.

Not to be a smart ass...
But how about - Don’t drop your gun?
Look into the muzzle of a loaded firearm - with your finger on the trigger...
Prove how empty your gun is by pointing it at anyone...
Cleaning a loaded firearm...
Dry firing with Ammo...

drop safety has more consequences than simply fumbling a loaded gun and it going off when you dropped it. Consequences of any impacts such as trips, falls, or car accidents. Also the basic act of removing your holster shouldn't come with a mined deathtrap with a round in the chamber.

Dry firing with Ammo... Sure, and with some firearms, especially older models, "don't drop a loaded gun" is really your only option. With a P320 it's designed to have this drop safety feature, you paid for it, and if yours is broken I bet you can send it to SIG and they'll fix it for you, likely for free. So it's worth doing the function test, considering there have been some reports of this safety breaking in the field. I checked my three p320's and they all pass this test. Took me only about two minutes to test all three, it is easy to do, and I'll check it again every time I clean one.

Am I missing something because this is old news. You can also go to Sigs website and put in your serial number and they will tell you if your pistol has that issue.

Who’s shooting 5,000 rounds these days? In a year? In 5?
Man, that’s a big budget.
Please for clarity. I am not saying to do the things. I just want to shine a bit of light on the bigger picture.

I was routinely putting 400 rounds through my p320 every other week before the pandemic. I am probably not going to shoot that much again until ammo prices drop, but in "normal" times I would go through that in well under a year. Hoping for normal time to resume, until then sure, it's a lot at current prices.
