Ok guys after my last trip I'm looking for recommendations for an outside the waistband holster for my orginal xds 9mm. I'll be mainly using it at my buddies cabin in a few weeks and while hiking that area.
On a secondary note whats the safest way to lock up yet quickest to deploy an ar15 without putting it in a safe?

Those are nice holsters, but i find that style to be rather bulky and rigid depending on what you are doing. Something more minimalist during activities is more my speed, and if it keeps it off the body slightly it's nice too. OP...Are you looking for a positive retention, or just friction? Here's an option that gives 3 ways to OC that are included. Belt, paddle, drop. https://www.comp-tac.com/international-neutral-colors

I happen to agree with 1st part of this as I am still on the chunky side. I plan on wearing this outside choping wood, yard maintenance and while hiking around because of cougars and some 2 legged vermin we have had issues with. As for positive vs friction retention I'm not sure yet. I like the idea of positive retention like my buddies Blackhawk I wore last time. But I found it was bit tricky to get it right with zero practice which almost became a real problem last time. So currently I'm leaning to just friction for the practice of KISS.

Take a look at the Comp Tac holsters then. You get 3 attachment options included with the holster, i think you will find one of them to be a good fit.

For open carry I like the Condor holsters.. they can be adjusted to any weapon/light combo and are cheap https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1Be sure to set yourself up with at least a 2 mag reload system

So when you open carry you do the drop leg? I guess it doesn't matter for the Woods or on your own property, but if i see a guy out in public like that? Yeah, Mall Commando. Full disclosure, i do have a Condor thigh rig though...

For such limited use, my recommendation would be the good old Blade-Tech Signature model. It's inexpensive, durable, has good retention and has several different attachment systems. I prefer the "ASR". I have one of these for each of my pistols and use them for my yearly trips to Front Sight. https://blade-tech.com/collections/hols ... pringfield

Be careful with those fabric holsters with the mag pouch that rides the top. Some combinations will stick with the front site under the magazine, so that a quick draw is practically impossible. You'll find yourself yanking to clear canvas in an emergency.
Kydex is nearly always gonna be your fastest draw and easiest one handed reholster...but it's also easier to snag EVERYTHING on it for those same reasons.
A leather belt slide is your friend. It'll keep your compact handgun nice and close to your body. Out of the way of body motion, away from sticks and such, and it won't stab you in the hip or kidney everytime you pick something up, or prevent you from sitting down in a chair. They're cheap, and available everywhere. ($35) This example is a Bianche 105. I tend to buy a little small so that the fit is snug. If you want extra retention, an old fashioned thumb break model is even more secure.

Thank you everyone so far for your input as there are some very temping options above. I stumbled across this while looking for leather holsters. I'm curious if anyone has experience with the gls slim? https://safariland.com/products/model-571-gls-slim-pro-fit-concealment-holster-w-micro-paddle-model_571 it seams like it would be very intuitive to manipulate?

+1 for leather. I've done the kydex thing. Love it for competition and is provides the quickest draw. But it will hang the pistol further from your body than leather does. A decent leather holster will pull the pistol into your body and not hang so much. If I'm going to be out and about and want something comfortable and out of the way (concealed) regardless of what I'm wearing, I will always grab a leather holster. If you need extra retention, you may consider one with a strap.
