The best evolutions of the AK are the Valmet M76 and the Galil ARM.
So say we all!

VZ58 gets too hot when ran hard. You can full send a LOT of lead thru the AK before the handguards catch fire. The VZ, one mag and it's getting uncomfortable.
Me like all. Me say all.

Don't have either, but getting an SKS on a C&R is the reason I want to apply for the license

I always thought there was a good argument that the SKS is a better SHTF rifle. With an AK/AR, etc. If you loose your mags or they're damaged, it's useless. You can store a lot of strippers in a small space and you can always load it by hand.
Now in an all out fire fight, you're SOL but a general survival rifle, it has some pluses.
That said, I'm going to go load some more mags.

There are some militarys that use AK's and stripper clips in their standard loadout. They'll have like 3 mags, a handful of rounds on strippers and a spoon.

Had a MAK 90 and a '53 Russian SKS. kept the SKS. We used to play climb the ladder with the sks's. Had a bunch of the steel core ammo, put a 2' SCHD 40 black iron pipe @ 8' long over a 1' pipe stuck in ground, @ 50 yds out. Starting about 1' up, see if we could climb rounds up at 2" steps... (This was at a private range) nice to see it punch thru pipe, both sides 99% of time.. could keep on 9" pie tin at 100 yds. Maybe not smartest thing in retrospect, but hellofa lotta fun!

And if you happen to be a lefty.... NEVER make your SKS a bullpup. I'm a lefty and knew better than to shoot Madpicks... but that poor bastard with the broken toof didn't.... He didn't even give us time to warn him....

As far as their forged Trunnion AK's? Have you seen Robski's 5K round test? They are good to go. I have one, still haven't put a round through it though.
