Alright, the FIL wants a .22 can to add to his stash after some arm twisting. He is looking at the Ruger rimfire can but it seems pricey to me.

I have 2 Gemtech Outback IIs that I love, but they can't be disassembled by the user (easily anyway, jestertac has taken his apart but left tool marks because it was incredibly tight) but I've shot at least a thousand rounds through one (other is unfired) with no percieved loss of sound dampening or issues. I can sonic clean it if I need to I suppose, but it's aluminium so no simple green. Other than lack of service mine are perfect for me and I love how they look on my paclite upper - almost like one piece.

Anyway- what's the best thing out there these days? It has been close to 10 years since I bought a rimfire can. Light, quiet, user serviceable are the priorities. I think he would want black, but not positive and he could always have dreadi cerakote it.

Primary use would be Ruger pistol (probably MK4) and a bull barrel accurized 10/22, so rimfire only. A .17hmr capable can is a bonus but not required, he sold his volquartszen.

I really like my Spectre II cans, but they have been replaced by the "Switchback"
Here is a top 5 list done in March. They still used the Spectre in the comparison though and you can still find them online.

A rimfire can is the one type of suppressor that I believe you can cheap out on price-wise and still achieve the desired result. It's not like they have to perform under the same conditions as a centerfire rifle or pistol can. Randy (Nitro_Guns) has some cans for sale right now for good prices. I'd consider snapping up the pair of Range Tool .22 cans he has for $125 each. Then you can have a dedicated can for a pistol and a rifle. YouTube reviews on those appear to be positive.

The Better .22 cans are rated for 5.7x28 and even full auto, but i agree you have more room to go cheap with a .22 can.

My Gemtech Outback II Titanium is a great can. Easy to take apart and reassemble after over 3,000 rounds.

Right now on market my Top 3 for .22LR are (biased)

Dead Air Mask
AAC Element 2
Q Erector

Take a look at the Switchback...the quietest Rimfire can on the market and can be configured 3 ways.

Thanks guys! Gives me a few to look into.

So many choices out there for rimfire that it gets overwhelming!

Yeah, I'd give up my two .22 cans for a SilencerCo Switchback 22 in a heartbeat.

I went with a rugged oculus 22. No first round pop. And for using a suppressed 22, that may be a big factor for you.

The Spectre II was noted for that too. :thumbsup2:
