My wife inherited a p38 that belonged to her grandfather that died before she was born. Based on the cyq code on it and the serial number of 950, it appears it was made by a German company called Spreewerk in October of 1942. It also has the eagle over 88 proof mark. It is in good condition but shows plenty of honest holster wear which leads me to believe it was issued. Does anyone have any information on this piece?

Seems to be unmolested on first glance. Check the locking block to verify all the serial numbers match. It still has the red/white paint on the decocker, so that’s good. I’d say at least 550-600 easily. If it has any family history, you should keep it for keepsake. Those are somewhat collectible. I wouldnt put too many rounds through her. Nice find!

The Walther / P-38 forums online are frequented by people who are experts on these wartime guns. If it does not have an import mark and if the numbers match I would say $850.
