Agreed. I was asked this question a couple of times this morning during a ladies' shoot.

In my opinion, if a .22 is all you have or are comfortable with, then whatever, it's a hell of a lot better than no gun at all. However, it will never be my choice not necessarily because of ballistics but because of reliability. In general, .22 ammo is unreliable, and .22 guns are even more unreliable.

Is this just a test to see if I'm paying attention, Marco?

That part was meant for you, and you alone Steve.

When I'm in big bear country, I carry the 329PD. I have to be weight conscious as pounds = pain. It's a handful, but manageable.

I handload a 255 grain hardcast Keith at maximum pressure. It will punch a heck of a hole. If I can't get it done in six, well, so be it.

Bear spray is only to be used after the shooting, so you can demonstrate you tried it before shooting. Otherwise, you get a civil suit from one of the bear loving groups (applies to lower 48).

"The alleged robbers entered the Karemore Pharmacy in Princess Anne Maryland with a modern sporting rifle...

Wasim Amir, the pharmacist on duty, was sitting in his office watching the robbery taking place. He decided he wasn't going to let his customers and co-workers be in danger from two gunmen who could open fire at any time....
... Amir grabbed his revolver that he kept in his desk and entered the pharmacy."

In the woods, like the context of the conversation? No.

Other places? Yeah. So?

Ugh. There are so many bear gun threads on the S&W forum it's become a running gag.

In bear country I carry a S&W 629 5" with 300gr hard casts in a nylon shoulder holster. It's not particularly light but I know it'll work. I'd love to find a S&W Mountain Gun in .44 or .41, or perhaps just get a Ruger Alaskan in .44. I've shot a 329PD with "normal" 240gr stuff and it's very un-fun. With a Hogue X frame rubber grip it probably would be manageable.

1. First off, those skid marks are from my dog. He's a pug, an old one at that.

2. Which old lady?

If you live in Enumclaw, that's your problem. Is that like down on the farm?

I wouldn't do a short .357. You don't get a lot of velocity from a 2 inch barrel. Not a huge amount better than a .38 and a +P 9mm from a 3 inch is about the same. Putting a .357 into a 2 inch is like taking a V8 but never going past 3rd gear. Lots of noise, but not much speed.
