Canadian Forces put out a request for bids on a new service pistol, which will be designated the C22, to replace their ancient Hi-Powers.

They all but name the SIG P320 by including such requirements as a removable FCU:

Steyr makes a removable FCU as well.

Yeah there are a few.

The requirements they published are interesting beyond being p320 like.

No parts replaced in 35000 rounds, other than springs. No loss of accuracy in 35000 rounds if barrel replaced at 20,000 rounds. Must be able to drain and fire within five seconds of being submerged in water. Must have 1.65moa of accuracy. Must be able to rack the slide on a belt with the rear sights. Must function in -45C and +49C, as well as when icy. Must resist salt water corrosion.

Interesting to see what happens.

Mind you their current Service Pistol is a Browning hi-power. Which anything from that is a downgrade or upgrade depending on how you look at it.

I wonder if there's any chance at all of those hi-powers being sold on the surplus market. Hi-powers seem to have a lot of fans even today.

Not likely from current indication of that government and leadership.

Surplus being sold to Canadian citizens or being sold internationally not likely.

I would buy the shit out of a surplus Inglis. At this point they must be so well used that they'd be cheap and they'd make a great conversation piece in the safe alongside other, better-condition BHPs.

Two things, according to friends who know, there are still some small amount of NOS pistols in storage.

Next, there will be NO surplus HPs sold they will all be destroyed.

Of course they'll get destroyed. But it made a nice daydream for a minute there.

I have been lucky enough over the years to acquire 2 of them, the last one at the Tulalip Cabelas for less than 400 dollars. Mixed in with about 4 of the Argentine FM pistols.
