Ruger PC9 vs Palmetto AR-9, Which do I want?

Thinking about getting a PCC before July, both the Ruger PC9 and the PSA Ar-9 are cheap/look fun. Both take Glock mags, both break down in the middle. Anyone have any thoughts which would be preferable?

Go with the Ruger - you won't be disappointed. Lots of nice features in a well-built package.

I have both...The Ruger is a bit heavier compared to the PSA. Honestly can't go wrong with either. I've read how some AR9's can be a pain in regards to reliability but I've have yet to have any issues (only taken to the range twice).

The only issues I have had with my Ruger is the peep sight somehow fell off and got lost (Ruger replaced and I made sure to use loc-tite) and using the clock mag, I really have to push them pretty good in the mag well and almost slam the bottom of the magazine to make sure it is locked in.

its hard to pick one over the other, just depends what your plans are with it.

Does the takedown mechanism lock up tight? I'm inclined to try the Ruger just because it's a bit different.

Yes, it does. I was concerned about that, too, but after having shot my buddy's PC9 takedown, I have seen for myself that the lock-up is solid and it returns to zero. Well, at least his does...I can't speak for them all. :ROFLMAO:

Take a look at the Extar 9mm too. A blast of a gun for only $439 shipped. You'll need a lot of 9mm ammo to keep up with it though. Mine pulls home defense duty without any qualms. Probably the best home defense pistol I've owned to date once it was outfitted with a Holosun optic. Super quiet suppressed too.

With respect to 1639, the only real question is if you ever want a Ruger.

Since AR9s are ARs, the lower is commonly sold separately, which means it's not subject to 1639.

Good point.

The lower receiver - which is the "firearm" - absolutely is subject to 1639. Uppers are not.

No, it's not. The 1639 transfer requirements are for semi-auto rifles only, and a lower is not a rifle.
