 Female firearms instructor needed

I'm in need of a female firearms instructor to do a one-on-one class for my wife to introduce her to firearms and dispel misconceptions. My wife will not necessarily be shooting during this class. That can be left up to the instructor's expert judgement. I want her to learn from someone besides me to avoid any familiarity bias and to learn from a woman to avoid any male bias.

I had previously booked a class at a local range to have one of their instructors do this, but apparently the management got confused and thinks I want them to teach my wife to shoot. That's premature at this point. So, I'm looking for someone in Skagit County who can do this.

Have you called to gun ranges that offer classes/courses near you?

This way you can tie into their network and more leads?

Going rate for 1:1 is typically $75-$125+ an hour with a 2-4 hr minimum (not including travel etc).

Are you asking someone to come to your home? If not shooting - it’s a bit tougher on a live fire range to just talk.

Have you considered something at just another woman to do a Zoom type meeting?

The class I booked was at a range that offers classes both on the range and in classrooms. They have a per-hour one-on-one thing at a rate comparable to what you said for whatever firearm-related thing you want to work on. That, I thought, would be able to offer the kind of instruction I'm after. I got an email a couple hours ago telling me they can't do that. I haven't yet made any calls to other ranges. I also hadn't really considered a Zoom type meeting.

For what you are looking at Zoom maybe the ticket. Call around.

What kind of gun is premature at this point. I'd like her to be comfortable at least with a full-sized pistol and an AR15 in case the need arises. Most important is to get misconceptions dispelled and questions answered. So, it looks like a Zoom session is ideal at this point. Thanks for the pointer.

It does matter in a way which you actually answered. Maybe not the specific firearm but it does give insight into “what” type of firearms etc and skill sets to focus on for the instructor.

Zoom is just an idea.
Now finding an instructor to do it is another matter. Seems it might be more of a Q&A for her and basic fundamentals of firearms.

Please note there is no Zoom type instructors out there established... that is doing this. You will have to find an instructor willing to do it and then work out the terms (fee, time etc).

I would strongly look at courses like what is offered by AdventureProtection.org

It’s a woman’s only course to cover all the fundamentals and exposure to all types of firearms. Look at their reviews.
A+ group

Best of luck!

There used to be a chapter of "A Girl and a Gun" that operated out of Norpoint Shooting Range in Smokey Point. You might see if it's still active. AGAG is a great resource for new lady shooters.

You might reach out to Kathy at "The Cornered Cat" - she's a firearms instructor that might be able to recommend someone in your area.

Get the contact information for Mike Hassebrock through the Custer Gun Club in Blaine. His wife is a certified firearms instructor. Does an outstanding job!
