I am torn on mine. Yes it gives me more knowledge of what is going on in general at my front door. I have a few friends that love it and swear by it, however as a "door answering" device I find it less than useful.

• The lag an delay in transmitting to my cell means that someone has walked to my door, done whatever and is almost back at the road before I can answer it. Be it motion or an actual bell ring.
• It only records a short video if you do not answer it in time, understandable as it is a cloud ervice and does not record 24x7, but still is frustrating having it not record whern there is motion in front of it. It records X seconds period. Be nice if it kept recording when there is motion, then stops x seconds afterwards.
• I found it does not have a very good wifi signal range. I have a pretty strong wifi hotspot that will reach the back of my property, but the Ring get barely passable signal 10ft away.
• Triggering and zones I have found less than acceptable. It will not pickup our vehicles in the second driveway moving that are directly in front of it, yet in a zone I have turned off it will pickup trucks out on the road.

Long and short it is not quite the pie in the sky perfect solution they claim, but it is useful as I can keep eye on son going in/out and if something gets delivered to the front door. I know I am looking for more of a full home video cam system long term that will be hardwired so not hackable and hopefully much more responsive in alerting me.

Can almost never connect when someone pushes the button

Lamrith and Rix both describe the issues with Ring. Mine has not been nearly as bad as theirs sound, but it has had those issues. My greatest beef with it is it will pick up cars on the road 60ft away but doesn't pick up people walking up to the door until 2ft away. For the most part, it connects when I want it to and the battery is ok, but not great due to all the cars that drive by on my street.

Overall, I like having it for the peace of mind since I travel regularly and the wife and kids are at home. I can monitor my front door from anywhere I have signal.

I've not had problems with the Ring doorbell but I didn't care for their cameras. Ring didn't sound like a security solution but more of an alert system.

I have a Ring doorbell and also the stick-up cam. What the guys described above is accurate. I love having them, but they could stand some significant improvement.

I don't know if the competition is any better, since Ring is all that I've tried.

Maybe the fact that I have been several varieties of Arlo's for several years? Anyway, sorry, I didn't mean to come across as a total rube. My humble apologies to all. I will strive to be better.

Whats the model of your current box? Would help in letting us know if its easy to service - honestly wouldn't know why it wouldnt be.

I have a nest cam. Just awful and pricey.

Blinks are completely wireless, survive on a single AA for over a year at a time. Each camera is only $75~. No monthly fees and comes with free clip storage unlike the nest!

I bought a Wyze wireless camera on Amazon for under $30. It's not perfect and has cloud based proprietary software, but it's perfect for my use. I have it shooting through the front door sidelight window and it monitors my front porch. I will be buying better cameras eventually, but for now, it's an acceptable, cheap solution. It is USB wall wart powered, but does accommodate a micro-USB card

It did take me a while to manage the targeted trip area to minimize false notifications, but i'm happy with it now. It's a pretty small window to avoid blowing plants, my flag, traffic and pedestrians, but we have minimal false trips now.

No, it is not "the" security solution, but if you need a simple, inexpensive camera setup, it works.

No monthly subscription fees.

I have both Ring doorbell and Arlo cameras. I don't LOVE either. You can buy a power adapter for the Ring. Best enhancement for me as I always forgot to charge it even with the email reminders. I also picked up a wedge kit since mine is mounted on beveled siding. This helped cut down on the false triggers.

The Arlo just can't seem to be adjusted properly for motion detection. It either captures every single car driving by or nothing. I bought rechargeable CR123 batteries because they chew through them pretty quickly. The newer Pro models have a solar panel you can charge with which is nice.

Blink has some good reviews on Amazon, but they're owned by Amazon, so.....

Here's two reviews that both list some pros & cons, and while some video storage is free, there are other video parameters that could be a challenge to some.

While intriguing, I think I'll pass on this one because of the Amazon affiliation, and the fact that they are opening up certain aspects to 3rd party vendors.
