So the first claim is that a front-runner for the Mexican Presidency is promising to flood the U.S. with "migrants".

"And soon, very soon — after the victory of our movement — we will defend all the migrants in the American continent and all the migrants in the world,” Obrador said, adding that immigrants “must leave their towns and find a life in the United States.”"

So...typical communist workers-of-the-world hyperbole.

But the motivation cited in the article got me to thinking: "Can this be right?"

"Does anyone know what the biggest source of income is for Mexico? Tourism? No. Oil? No. It’s remittances. That’s money that Mexicans living in the United States sends back to Mexico."

Wouldn't such an act be considered a state sponsored invasion, which is an act of war?

What you're saying largely follows the Heritage Foundation report:
https://www.heritage.org/index/country/mexico

From all appearances, Mexico also has a large cash economy based on government corruption, bribery, and of course the illegal drug trade. It would be nearly impossible to accurately pin down the amount of money involved though I'm sure it's quite substantial. So a major source of income to Mexico also comes from residents of the United States purchasing illegal drugs.

The main thing is that the rule of law is very weak in Mexico with most politicians and public officials participating in institutionally endemic graft and corruption. To my way of thinking Mexico is now just another failed narco state.

Why do we invade and go to war with every other corrupt and violent country in the world? But we never threaten Mexico?

As much you might dislike some of your neighbors actions, do you really want to start a battle with them? After all, you share property boundaries with them. What affects them, affects you.

Plus, cheap labor on the farms and at Home Depot.

I love this sentiment juxtaposed to "Oh! The immigrant children" and "Brown Lives Matter" or whatever social justice slogan is favored that day.

Be nice to them to the detriment of your neighbors (and, ultimately, your children) so that we can exploit them to our gain.

Would be a good excuse to "incorporate" our southern neighbor. Give em all ssns, make em pay taxes, have a much smaller and more manageable southern border. Enact a period of marital law; get the national guard on line and go "hands across America" from the current border south to deal with the gangs and cartels.

Allow the newly minted citizens to carry and defend themselves and watch the remaining crime solve itself after a couple of years.

Might be a horrible idea, but if they want to be in the USA so bad, why not bring it to them?

From the White House newsletter this morning:

"President Trump vowed on Friday to keep fighting to restore rule of law. "According to a 2011 government report, the arrests attached to the criminal alien population included an estimated 25,000 people for homicide, 42,000 for robbery, nearly 70,000 for sex offenses, and nearly 15,000 for kidnapping," the President said. "

And the majority of the criminals are still south of the border. Opening up the borders? Or taking on Mexico as the 51st state? hunh. I dunno....

Let's just annex Canada and Mexico at the same time. Can...can you imagine a combo Tim Hortons/Taco Bell/KFC? Couple drumsticks along with a poutine and a Mexican pizza, plus a litre of cola?
