I was working in the yard and slipped, I didn't fall as I corrected myself but my left leg did slipped out a fair bit. Thought nothing of it and continued to work as I didn't felt any pain or discomfort. After working, took a shower and had dinner, still nothing. I then went to my office and sat down in my of my computer, this is about 4 hours later, but when I tried to get up I felt an intense pain in my left ankle like I've twisted it and I could hardly walk.
Manage to hop myself to my medical cabinet and downed a couple of Advil and it helped.
Is this what they called a delayed injury response? I must've twisted my ankle somehow but I didn't feel a thing and continue to work for a couple of hours in the yard, plus shower and dinner; it was only when things are winding down and I was checking my work schedule for the next day at the computer that I then felt the pain.
Has anyone else experience similar thing?

I hyper extended my knee walking on a decline on May 1st. Didn't feel, nor remember the misstep, but within the hour I was in intense pain. Kept working. Doctor's office the next day.
Doctor: It's just a sprain. R.I.C.E first 24 hours.
By the next weekend I couldn't sleep through the night. It had gotten worse before it got better, and while better, only marginally so and still swollen.
Returned to doctor but no appointment available until yesterday.
"Maybe you pinched the meniscus. I'll order an MRI." (still have to wait get insurance authorization)
I'm more inclined to think torn MCL which I just went through with my other knee. I'm all out of 'other' knees to hobble on.
So, yes. Delayed injury.

It’s the inflammatory response. Takes your body a bit to swell up and start repairing the injured site. Typically 1-3 days from injury depends on severity of injury and where.

I got married (twice) and didn't realize I'd hurt myself for a few years. Can't put a cast on that, though.

When I had a car accident it took nearly 12 hours and then 24 for the real pain in my chest to kick in from the seat belt squeeze. There was virtually no pain after the accident itself. I also feel most of the pain in my legs from long hikes/walks and weight lifting on the following day after waking up (or I wake up from the pain in some cases).
Unless something is broken, don't expect rapid pain.
