Thank you for the well wishes guys. I appreciate it, I'll stick around the site too, to keep tabs on the shenanigans around here. I have landed another interview too for more pay than what I'm getting here and I work in manufacturing so if you are a blue collar guy who's in welding or machining you'd be surprised what you can find out in the Midwest right now.

My days of working ends 18 years ago so basically for me it’s a retirement move to get out of the wet and cold here.
Good luck brother! :thumbsup2:

Congratulations on the move and for landing a good job.

Having lived in 3 different countries and 2 different States here in US, I can appreciate how exciting it can be to be moving, that excitement can sometimes of tinted with a bit of sadness because we are after all creatures of habit and leaving a familiar location can bring a bit of gloom at times. Fear not though, adventure awaits!

One thing you should be aware of though, is that the workforce in US is changing rapidly with the introduction of working from home full time to many tech companies. My employer for example have always had full remote working for some groups, but since the pandemic, has expanded the work from home availability to everyone including international offices. What this means, is that you will start to see people moving into your neighborhood that you traditionally will not see; basically tech workers working full remote moving into mid-west/suburbs where traditionally they will be living closer to large cities. This can have an impact on cost of living as your neighbors start driving up cost and instead of an old beat up pickup truck, you'll see shiny new Land Rovers and Mercedes Benz on your local streets.

If you wish to minimize the impact of high income remote workers impacting your neighborhood, move into an area that is more than 30mins away from the local major airport. Remote workers like myself usually require access to a major airport because our employers deploy us as specialists at customer sites at a moment's notice. Houses that are too far away from airports are usually not as attractive, and 30mins or more away makes those houses even less attractive.

Ya seeing a lot of fancy tesla Xs and 3s (really model 4 but they don't like to count the Z) here in N Idaho.

When a really cold winter comes they'll be in for a rude awakening.

I totally understand. I grew up in Southern California but the politics there never fit me and they just got worse as I grew up. I lived in Montana briefly then back to CA until the Army carried me all over and eventually I landed here in WA and stayed since. While WA was never completely gun-friendly, up until the mag ban it wasn't too bad. Now I am really contemplating getting the heck out of here too but it gets harder to relocate to other states as you get older and have a bigger family and possessions.

Maybe Idaho is in the cards for me if it gets worse though. Good luck!

What was your MOS/job in the Army?
I'm an AIT instructor at Fort Sill as a GS-9 making good money with a fairly low cost of living (until Brandon came along).

Just like I tell all my soldiers, if it sucks where you are at, it's your fault. No place on this planet is perfect, it's what you make of what you have available. Make the best of what you have.

Do I have Mt. Rainier in my backyard? ................No, not anymore. -No, but I do have Mt. Baker.

Do I have a house with AC? .............Yes -Yes, me too.

Do I have three acres where my dog can run free and chase cows? ..........Yes -Well, 2.5 for me but yes.

Can I shoot in my yard? ........................Yep -Yep, have been for 17+ years now.

Just an observation - most of the people bailing from here are from the city. Or at least what us rural farm/mountain land people would call city. From where I'm sitting, that whole area from about Everett down almost to Chehalis is a steaming cesspool of crap, liberals, and restrictions. But I repeat myself.
There are plenty of places in WA, even on the wet side, where you can live as free as any other state. Just leave the "city people" mentality where you came from, please.

Are you under some stunned illusion that you're not subject to the same bullshit laws the rest of the state is? Just because you're not "city people"?

LOL

If you think you need to move out of state to be able to shoot in your yard, or enjoy your standard cap mags, or a whole list of other things people are complaining about in this thread, then have at it. Life away from the cities is very different than where most of you live.
