Crap! Saw ZZ Top at the Astrodome in 1981. The Stones' Tattoo You tour, if memory serves.

Appearing in order:
The Fabulous Thunderbirds
ZZ Top
The Rolling Stones

Nobody really knew who the T-birds were, so they were more or less boo-ed off the stage. ZZ Top was 100% awesome. Unfortunately, I don't remember much of the Stones' performance. Tells you all you need to know about just how good Dusty, Billy, and Frank were, that night.

I was looking at their 2021 schedule the other day to book a show!!! So sad, I’ve seen them over 20 times in 40+ years. They always put on a great show. :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

Yeah that's bad news for ZZ Top, what a great band... Sorry to hear of the loss of Dusty Hill and condolences to his family and bandmates.

Don't despair. Some of the old favorites bring in new talent and keep touring (e.g. Marshal Tucker Band, The Outlaws, etc.). Maybe ZZ Top will do this too once the shock passes.

Wife and I have tickets to Willie Nelson in August as he's in same boat as ZZ Top (not getting any younger). None of us can take our continued health for granted, especially as we get older.

Seems like that dude was around since I was a kid. If not for Veg-a-Matic we would have never had Bass-a-matic.

Sucker sold tons of shit, no doubt about that.

Dale Snodgrass. My best friends neighbor in Idaho.
He logged more F14 hours than any pilot. Retired and flew airshows until he retired at 56. He was 72 when his Marchetti went down right after take off.
In Idaho where he lived
My buddy suspects heart attack or stroke while taking off since the plane recently just had an overhaul.

He was an advisor on the movie Top Gun and flew many of th clips in the movie.

Top Gun was based off of Dale's brash, wild streak personality he had in the Navy.

This famous photo was Dale in the cockit.

I think I met Dale once in the '80's while talking with Art Scholl in the pits at the Reno Air Races. Art was a tech advisor and video Grapher on Top Gun and died during the filming. Mechanical failure suspected. RIP Dale.

Yeah, and Paul asked him about it, he was grounded for a spell after that stunt. This was before Top Gun the movie came out.
