Find an old seventies truck. Buy it. Replace tires, brakes, all fluids, lubricants, spark plugs and wires, rotor, cap, and all filters. Drive it. Total investment will be under ten grand even if you start off with a cream puff of a truck. Parts are cheap, they are easy to work on, and small blocks are decent for fuel economy. Best of all, no monthly payments, and you will never be a slave to dealership service based on proprietary electronics and impossible tool requirements just to keep your new truck alive.

My current tow vehicle is a 1997 Cummins, 5 speed dually 4x4. It runs great but we are doing more family road trips and 5+ hours on the freeway towing 10,000 pounds and a camper with an extended cab full of stuff isnt working so well. We have some longer trips planned that are 30 hours of driving and something more modern and quiet is needed.
