There we step down to 30 lb bows. It’s a great father-son sport! My son and I spent many, many hours and days together in head-to-head competitions. I’m still a bit better than him, but he kills me in trap/skeet/sporting clays. We are a push in pistols and rifles. Nice! Work on that Trap game brother, don't let the Kid beat you. I can get to 35 yards in my back 40, so that's a good start. farfrompar28 wrote: Yep just dumped about $2k in mine.. very addictive.. Damn...go big or go home. Mathews, very nice. I pretty quickly figured out the grip on my Bow is too short/small after about 25 shots in the backyard today. Thumb knuckle hard rides the top shelf with the Bow sling installed. When i was looking at it and handling it, it felt fine. The problem came up after the Bow sling was installed after tuning and i shot it the next day. I removed the Bow sling and my hand completely covers the install hole, that's no bueno as it forces my grip up. So i'm headed back to Sportsman's tomorrow to see about another Bow that fits my hand. Too bad, i shot it well for the first 10-15 down range, then it started to hurt that knuckle. It's a really nice bow with some really nice features, but my hand is too big for the grip.

Nice thread !!! I've personally never handled a bow in my life. That being said, this year we enrolled our grandson in 4H for Williamson County here in Texas. We just started him with archery this month.
First we took him for an hour lesson at a local archery store with indoor range where he got to use both a recurve and compound bow. Recently we took him to a nearby 4H archery practice. He seems to really enjoy the challenge.
We both enjoy the experience of a shooting sport that doesn't involve hearing protection :) Hoping that our grandson continues to enjoy the experience and looking forward to watching his growth in the sport.
I too was quite surprised by what I see in target compound bows as far as technology and the sophistication of the equipment with vibration damper rods and all. Cool stuff.

I have been shooting bows since I was about 5yo The first ones were hand made by my grandpa Then got to shoot a bunch at summer camp (Orkila) where I spent a month every summer 7-12yo Got good with all forms of bows, never had a sight, all instinctual shooting, bare fingers Bought a new Bowtech patriot with all the bells and whistles Wasn’t any good with it until I took off the sight and went back to old school Wicked weapons I don’t hunt with it, but if a deer walks into my back yard during the season... Freezer filled

I went back to Sportsman's and got fixed up. The Bow Tech switched out the proprietary Elite sling that ate up grip length to one that attached to the stabalizer. Problem solved! If anyone is looking for a Bow and great service and Bow setup, i recommend Mark at the Federal way Sportsman's. I think he is leaving in a couple weeks though, so maybe go see him sooner than later.

Cool stuff. Yeah, it's really cool that it's something we can do together in the backyard! The Bows these days are crazy. The bow speeds are really something, i understand why they sell Arrow pullers now. Carbon Fiber Arrows, limbs, Riser's etc, my bow weighs only 3.6 pounds and it's relatively inexpensive Bow.

My 2nd time shooting it, and it was only 20 yards, but I think I got him. That's an ancient 3D Deer target that has been sitting up in the Greenbelt for almost 20 years my dad drug home from the Church thrift shop. I put it up there to get the neighbors attention and scare the dog's, both worked. I had forgotten about it until my son asked about it the other day and he drug it out of the bushes that had overgrown it. The legs were broken off from a Tree limb smashing him, but i added a couple Pins and it's finally getting some intended use,

Well done and welcome to the party. Elites are nice I have had an E35 for a few years now, got my black bear in '17 with it. I just bought a used Destroyer340 for a treestand/hunting bow, lot lighter and easier to bust brush with than the elite.

I'm really having fun with this Bow, and the fact i can shoot in my backyard anytime i want is awesome. I'm still learning and adapting to using a release VS the old day's with a three finger glove, but it sure is fun. My son is over for a couple days with his Bow and we are going to hit Sportsman's for some lighted nocks to do some night shooting, i tried it a couple nights ago and that was cool. I have enough light for the target and the Fiber sights to do it, so that just introduces another fun angle to the game. You guy's and gal's with bow's post them up, this is a really fun sport to get into.

Finally, contemplate competition activities...excellent pass time... Thanks for the tips. Both of our bows were professionally setup and tuned for us, as well as having our properly matched Arrows cut to the correct length. While my Son is a new Bow shooter, i had a compound many years ago and i have good fundamentals. Today i was back with the Bow tech at Sportsman's to have my draw length shortened a 1/2" that really helped with my anchor point. My son was given some instruction and pointers at the Bow pro shop he purchased from and has good form, now it's just a matter of continuing to practice. We were slinging arrows in the backyard today from 20-35 yards with nice groups on the 3D deer, but always looking to tighten things up. Good fun in the backyard, that 3D deer needs a new Kill zone core.

Built recurves in highschool woodshop and hunted with them. Don't have a compound, can still toss an arrow on my 40 year old hand build though!
It's a hobby, that is a good skill to be proficient in.

I got back into archery this year, my BIL started out this year, it’s a nice thing to do to hang out, I have a 50yrd range set up in the back of my property. We made a “dartboard” and play cricket. It’s fun competition!!
Started out again with aFred Bear Borsalino takedown, and just recently got a blackout pursuit.
Started out as a kid shooting recurves, and would hunt with a recurve that my uncle made in high school. Not sure if I’ll get back into bow hunting, but maybe. I also have a friend that is into bow fishing, so I might give that a go. Great sport/hobby to get into!!
